Kalahari Monate Lodge

The Kalahari Monate Lodge (South 28*22.573 East 2109.579) is situated in the Spitskop Nature Reserve, only 10 km from Upington, on the route to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The Spitskop Nature Reserve is home to many species of fauna and flora specific to the Green Kalahari (or Southern Kalahari), and if you want to experience the beauty of this area, the Kalahari Monate Lodge is a perfect self-catering accommodation option.

At the Kalahari Monate Lodge guests are accommodated in 6 luxury self-catering thatched chalets.  Each chalet is equipped with air-conditioning, bathroom with shower, linen and towels, microwave, large fridge/freezer, cutlery, DSTV, braai facilities and secure parking. The campsite at the Kalahari Monate Lodge offers 43 sites, covered with lush green grass, each with power point. The ablution facilities are spacious and spotless.

The Kalahari Monate Lodge also offers a cool, blue swimming pool – ideal for having a splash after a day in the hot Kalahari sun! There are opportunities for hiking (3 trails), quad bike drives (there are 37km of gravel roads through the Reserve), as well as game drives. There is also a field hut (only essentials and no electricity) for those who want to experience the true Kalahari while visiting the Kalahari Monate Lodge near Upington.

The nearby Spitskop hill is very interesting. Geologists say that this hill (on a clear day you can see it from 40 km away) was formed through erosion of the earth’s crust. The part that remained is granite, the reason why we can still see it today. On top of the Spitskop near the Kalahari Monate Lodge, is a telescope for game viewing – here you will have quite a unique vantage point!

The Spitskop, overlooking the Kalahari Monate Lodge, used to be a meeting and resting place for travellers in the days of the ox-wagon. Fortunately, your stay at the Kalahari Monate Lodge will be considerably more comfortable and luxurious!
